The artist who signed his work A. Sigmond was born Agulos Zsigmond on March 6, 1892 in Szekelyhid, Hungary.
In 1910, at the age of eighteen, he served in the Hungarian army infantry.
He arrived in USA on September 12, 1918 where he was identified as "mentally deficient" and was interred at the Manhattan State Hospital for the Insane. He remained there for four years.
In 1922 he was released from the hospital and applied for US Citizenship under the name Julius Sigmond. He lived at 160 East 26th Street in Manhattan.
He found work as an artist illustrating stories for the Hungarian language newspaper Amerika Magyar Nepszava located at 178 Second Avenue in NYC.
Julius Sigmond died at the age of seventy in North Carolina on February 2, 1963.
